The most recent paper from my long and fruitful collaboration with Jose Maria Gabriel y Galán’s fern lab at Universidad Complutense de Madrid has just been published! In this study we looked at the complex of plants formerly known as Blechnum spicant, which was recently moved to the genus Struthiopteris. Members of the group are common throughout Western Europe, and we identified characters that support the recognition of a new variety, Struthiopteris spicant var. pradae (named for Carmen Prada).
