Today marked the end of a 10-day adventure in South Africa! Andrea Hammer and David Adelhelm, both Botany majors at UF, arrived in South Africa with me last Sunday, May 5, and we’ve spent the days since exploring northeastern ZA’s ecosystems and learning some of the (many, many) plants in the region. We started at the National Botanical Garden and herbarium in Pretoria, then spent four days doing research at Kruger Park, and wrapped up with a tour of high elevation grasslands, incredible views, and temperate evergreen rainforest floors in the Blyde Canyon and Graskop region, botanizing all the while. It was a wonderful trip and we are leaving South Africa exhausted but happy, and with a deep appreciation for the beauty of savanna grasses!
