L to R: Samantha Chavez, Rodrigo Rivero, and Emily Lockwood prepare Illumina libraries for sequencing

Our three undergraduate researchers are taking on a genome skimming project to generate shotgun data for a number of fern species. They will go on to develop microsatellite primers from these data, and also assemble chloroplast genomes and mitochondrial sequences. They’ve just started library prep – so far, so good!
