It has been a great pleasure over the last few years to work with some of the botanical experts at Fairchild Tropical Botanical Gardens in Miami, Florida, including Jennifer Possley and Jimmy Lange. We first started collaborating on the Pine Rocklands project, and it turns out that both Jennifer and Jimmy also love ferns, so this is a match made in heaven! They work frequently to conserve native ferns in the Miami area and also in Puerto Rico, and Jenn recently wrote up some of their work in Puerto Rico for the garden’s publication. The Sessa lab gets a shout-out, as we’re working together on conservation genetics studies of several species of endangered ferns in PR to determine whether they are hybrids and so that their conservation status can be accurately set. We’re looking forward to continuing this collaboration, for the love of ferns!
