Jerald and Sally went down to Miami a few weeks ago to locate fern gametophytes in solution holes, and install some small data loggers to record microclimate data in several of these habitats. These data will contribute to Jerald’s PhD research on gametophyte-only ferns that never make a sporophyte. Apparently they also found a rat in one of these holes – hopefully he or she doesn’t eat the dataloggers!
